Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 29
Tonikaku Kawaii Fly Me to the Moon 29
トニカクカワイイ 29
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:
Tsukasa wakes in the morning and recalls how Nasa got her to give him a goodnight kiss. Since Nasa appears to be asleep, she decides to go ahead and change her clothing in the room. She didn’t realize Nasa was actually awake and attempting to peek at his wife. However, when she removed her blouse, he turned to face the other way in the futon.
Tsukasa is enjoying the sunrise when Nasa’s father Enishi joins her. He’s surprised and embarrassed when she formally addresses him as “Otousama.” Enishi panics when he realizes he has nothing to talk about with his daughter-in-law. Tsukasa recognizes this and asks him a question about his being an archeologist. This leads him to show her his library.
Tsukasa picks up a book written in Old Japanese and laughs after reading a passage. When Enishi inquires as to what’s funny, he’s stunned to hear her say that it is a love letter written by a man who’s very horny.
They are interrupted by Nasa, who apologizes to Tsukasa since he knows she isn’t interested in history and such. She’s embarrassed and denies that she doesn’t like history. Nasa notices his father has collected a katana of some kind. Since Enishi enjoyed the Kenshin series, he bought a real Sakabato sword. Nasa wants his dad to pull the sword out of its sheath, something that requires skill and delicacy.
Outside, Tsukasa realizes that Enishi is afraid to draw the blade, so she offers to do it instead. She takes the sword and draws it expertly, whipping it around and expertly returning it to the sheath. She remarks that the blade is heavy and returns it. This too surprises Enishi, since the blade is a modern one, not intended for battle.
Thoughts/Review:
Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 29 continues pushing the narrative that Tsukasa is an immortal. It is all very intriguing.
The Morning After
The main amusing part of the chapter came from Tsukasa awakening and then attempting to change. Nasa wanted to peek at his wife, but at the end of the day, he couldn’t do it.
I’ve heard some folks complain that this is not normal husband-wife behavior. It is true that newlywed couples would likely be going at it like rabbits. But this is a shounen manga published in Weekly Shounen Sunday. As such, this manga is not going to get very ecchi. This manga has kissing, holding hands, and other romantic elements and frankly, I’m good with that.
The Tsukasa Report
As I mentioned, Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 29 continues to indicate that Tsukasa is immortal. She did so in two ways.
First, she could easily read Old Japanese. Although Enishi is an archeologist, I got the impression that he had not read the “horny love letter” page that Tsukasa read and found amusing.
Second, she had no trouble wielding the Salabato (reverse blade) sword, popularized by the Rurouni Kenshin series. We’ve seen splash pages with Tsukasa having a katana at her side, and indeed Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 29’s splash page showed this as well.
Finally, not only could she quick-draw the blade and easily return it to its sheath, but she noticed how it was heavier than katanas used for war.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Sheeze. I’m so far behind, it isn’t even funny. So I’ll wrap up my review of Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 29 with this.
- I was amused at Enishi being embarrassed by being addressed as “Otousama.” It really is difficult to convey this into English, but Tsukasa using the”sama” honorific really elevates him in status compared to her. Because it is so formal and not used in normal Japanese, it is understandable that he’d be embarrassed by it.
- I was also amused at how Enishi properly predicted that Nasa would see his library as a waste of space. Putting everything into the cloud seems great until the cloud goes down. For me, nothing beats having a real book in my hands.
In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii chapter 29 was an enjoyable chapter. I liked the further implications of Tsukasa’s immortality and how she is fitting in with Nasa’s family.
